The March 2009 edition of “Kia Ora from New Zealand”, which is my student’s blog in Japanese, is now up!
The latest edition has some interesting and informative news about a famous yacht racing event which takes place in New Zealand. Numerous teams from various countries join this yacht racing event. Which team do you think was the champion? Check it out, you may be surprised!
Further in the article she describes the beautiful nature which one can find just a short distance from any metropolitan area in New Zealand.
Later in the article, she takes a more serious tone and compares and contrasts Japanese and New Zealand beliefs and customs regarding one’s career and how this affects the birthrate and… experience of child rearing in both countries.
An interesting topic perhaps to share with your students in class. Encourage them to share their opinions on this subject.
Finally, she is planning a short trip back to Japan at the end of this month and we at Smiths School of English in Fuse are planning to have a small dinner party together with her one evening.
These are just some of the topics which she has highlighted in this edition. As always, comments and questions posed back are always welcome.
This is another fun and informative article in the series “Kia Ora from New Zealand” guaranteed to start some interesting discussions in the classroom.
Please encourage your students to read it and also to write back with questions and comments.

Alex,
I will have a read of her latest post and tell my students about it too. Let me know when she will be visiting and maybe even the dinner time and place. I may be able to bring a few students. Not sure now but we shall see.
